On Sunday Dec 4th, I was off to Yachiyo in Chiba Pref with my .122. I sped down the expressway under wonderfully clear skies, and found the restaurant owned by a TACC club member. In front of the store was a Morris Minor and a Corona Pickup so it was pretty easy to find the shop. The TACC members that gathered for this event came in all sorts of classic cars. A new Amazon showed up for the first time, a Porsche 356 Spyder, an old Corvette, a Jaguar Etype, VW Beetle, etc. There was even a 3 wheel bike made in China ! There is no real policy for the TACC, but this is why it is so fun. The TACC normally gathers at Yumeno-shima, but on this day, about 20 people made their way to Chiba to enjoy real Ceylon curry. Mr. S. the owner of the restaurant is from Ceylon originally, and he had prepared a large curry buffet for us. My schedule was a bit busy these days, but I was able to relax and wind down. There is only one more event remaining this year for my .122 which is the TACC Hakone touring on the 18th. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will have good weather.

³Ú¤·¤«¤Ã¤¿º£Ç¯¤Î¥¤¥Ù¥ó¥È»²²Ã¤òÄù¤á³ç¤ê¤Þ¤¹¡£
The annual Amazon Touring trip was held on Nov 12th and 13th with a record 13 Amazons participating. It was originally planned in April, but due to the 3.11 earthquake, it was postponed to fall. Well, it was supposed to be 13 Amazons, but due some mechanical problems and other, 10 Amazons and 1 PV544 gathered for the Shizuoka pref. Nihonda tour. The weather report predicted rain, but the rain fell earlier on Friday so the day fortunately opened without and rain. We gathered at the Shizuoka IC and was rewarded by a great view of Mt Fuji. Some came as far as from Ishikawa pref and Nagoya. We visited the Toro ruins as we made our way thru the winding roads of Nihondaira. We took some photos with Mt. Fuji in the background, took the ropeway up to Kunoyama Shrine and had lunch. We arrived at our hotel and everyone staying at the hotel were surprised to see such a large number of Amazons in the parking lot. After taking some time in the hot springs, we went on to fun and food. Of course, the main course was all about Amazons. The morning dawned to some fog and some of the Amazons from afar started to depart. It was another fine day and we said farewell to each other at Miho no Matsubara. 5 Amazons went on towards Kawaguchi Lake to see the American Historic Show. 180 Old American cars were lined up with Mt. Fuji in the background. The Amazon was targeted towards the US market, so we all felt some kind of connection with these old American and enjoyed ourselves. So, back to Tokyo it was. My Amazon season is starting to wind down and just a few more events in December it will go back to hibernation.

The Motorsport Japan 2011 was held on the weekend of Oct 29 and 30th. This was the 6th MSJ and since I am part of the operating committee, it was crazy busy from after Rally Nippon. This year, the space was expanded to include historic cars and replica sports cars. A popularity vote was held which added to the excitement, and the number of entrants increased to over 100k people. My friends from TACC were entering into the classic car portion with their Amazon and Fairlady 1500. The Tokyou Univ whom had been competing with me at the Rally Nippon last week were there, also, with their Celica TE22. This car won the popularity vote. I also was participating as a vendor. We put up a tent selling old F1 and WRC goods for charity. It was a busy weekend but I get to take a breather before we go off to an Amazon run with 13 Amazon's to Nihondaira on the 12th and 13th and will close off the season with an entry to the Classic Car event at Jingu on the 26th.

A touring trip of 6 Volvo Amazons to Kumanoyu Spa was held over the weekend - 15th to 16th. The 6 Amazons included cars from Ishikawa, Nagoya, Gunma, Sagami & Shinagawa and they all drove out to Kumanoyu sap in Nagano prefecture to meet an Amazon 123GT. Saturday started off with rain as the 6 cars made their seperate way to Shinshu Nakano IC - just like the Monte Carlo rally in the old days. The initial goal was to go see Mr. S and his Amazon 123GT, but unfortunately, Mr. S was called away on sudden business. However, when we arrived at the Kumanoyu Hotel, we were welcomed by a "Welcome Amazon aficionados" sign along with a poster from Giro di Karuizawa hung next to a 1998 Nagano Olympic poster. We sunk ourselves in a green colored sulphur hot spring, drank tons of local beer and enjoyed our Amazon stories deep into the night. Heavy rain continued into the night, but at 9am, the skies cleared up for a beautiful fall day. Mr. S. showed us his car collection including a Citroen DS with a rare "spoon" key. We were presented with wheels and keys for our Amazons and off we started for another day of touring. The day was meant for touring with the autumn foliage already starting to turn bright red. We drove into Karuizawa to have some "hot" curry at the Giro di Karuizawa's organizer's curry shop and then called it a day to drive back to where we all started from. After the 600km drive, my Amazon made it safely back to Tokyo. Mr. G from Nagoya drove 670km and Mr. T from Ishikawa had a even longer drive. For all the Amazons, the touring was a bit of an adventure. For myself, I was a bit worried as Rally Nippon will start at the end of the week, but was relieved to come back with no mechanical problems. But when I looked at the weather report, it looked like it will start to rain again towards the end of the week.

On Sun July 10th, just when the rainy season finally let out and the scorching sun unrelentlessly shining, I drove with my .122 Amazon down to Saitama Institute of Automotive Technology for their Auto Jambore 2011. This institute actually has a seminar to instruct people how to go about the classic car rally time challenge. I was joining an old acquaintance from about 40 years back - Kiichiro Yokota - the first Japanese to challenge the Paris-Dakar race and also famous motor journalist and eco adventurer. We were also joined by another old acquaintance who is one of the pioneers in stunt car driving in Japan - Chiaki Ohtomo. The two were participating in the talkshow"Coexistence of cars with the environment" and "Safe driving car stunt" show. My .122 was parked along side Yokota-san's Prius representing the car of the past and the future. 7,000 people showed up for the event and 200 historic cars partipated. Most of the cars were domestic cars but many of them brought back nostalgic memories and I was able to enjoy myself in and between the talkshow events. The car stunt show featured an "almost real" police car, a motorcycle along with a 4 wheel car during a 2 wheel slalom "wheely". Just like the old times. Driving my .122 under the tough hot summer conditions was an adventure but my .122 thankfully made it back to Tokyo without overheating. It will go back underground to avoid the summer heat until September's classic car season.

The day after I crossed the finish line of the Giro di Karuizawa, I drove off onto the Jyoetsu HW, went on to Jyoshinetsu HW and made my way to Kumanoyu in Shiga Highlands (where they had the Winter Olympics). I was meeting up with the owner of Kumanoyu Hotel, Mr. S who is the single owner of a 1969 Amazon 123GT. While I was talking to Mr. T, owner of a old ryokan in Wakura Onsen - Ishikawa pref who had bought an Amazon himself last year end, we decided we would all meet up at the Kumanoyu Hotel. Kumanoyu is about a 2hr drive from Karuizawa, but its a 5hr drive from Wakura. We soaked ourselves in the green colored hot spring and talked about our Amazons. Mr. S' Amazon is a 1969 123GT while Mr. T's is a 1969 122. Mr. S not only owned an Amazon, but also had a 1968 SAAB, 1967 Jaguar X100 replica, Citroen DS among others. He also owned a stud tired VW engine buggy which he uses to run around the ski slopes. Mr. S also had been one of the organizers of the Shiga Highland Rally in the 60s, one of the top snow rallies of the time. We all agreed that the Amazon is one of the most solid cars. By noon the next day, we all headed back.

On 25th I joined the TACC meeting - the first of this year. I went out to Yumenoshima as usual, but was pleasantly surprised to find a car out of history - a 1929 Chevrolet International AC Roadstar. This is the first for TACC to see a car that was produced before WWII. The wheels were made of wood - of course. In addition, a 1964 Corsair also joined the party. With the pleasant weather, a lot of the members brought along there families, and on top, with these rare historic cars, quite a crowd gathered. We munched on some early car shaped valentine chocolates and fully enjoyed the day.
